Pinkcheer Tamio is born in Medan and began her piano studies when she was 7 years old. Her family moved to Jakarta when she was in high school and she continued her piano studies under the renowned Indonesian classical music critic, the late Mr. Soetarno Soetikno. After high school, she continued her musical endeavor in Malaysia (Sedaya College). During her study there, she was chosen as one of the Most Talented Young Musicians, an event organized by the British Council at Kuala Lumpur. Upon the completion of her degree, she was awarded with the Performance Grant Award that allowed her to study at the West Virginia University (WVU) in the US. She studied piano under Dr. Christine Kefferstan, Dr. James Miltenberger, Dr. Amstutz, and pedagogy under Dr. Connie Sturm. In WVU, she was chosen as one of the winners in the Young Artist Concerto Competition in WVU and during her graduate study she became the graduate assistant for the vocal department as the opera accompanist and was also an active collaborative pianist.
After receiving the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the WVU and serving as an Adjunct Faculty at the Washington and Jefferson College at Washington (PA), she returned to Jakarta and has taught music courses in Sekolah Tinggi Teologi Amanat Agung (Jakarta) and Sekolah Alkitab Asia Tenggara (Malang). As an active adjudicator in various piano competitions around Indonesia, she is currently the head of piano department in Sekolah Musik Gloriamus and also running her private piano studio that focuses on training and advancing piano teachers and also nurturing young musicians.
